Each field of study has its own terminology. As schools resume across the world formulas, definitions and precise terms will be spelled out in primary, secondary and post-secondary institutions of learning. No vagueness will be allowed, precision matters. What happens to a space probe that is off one degree in its launch? What happens to the manufacturing process when a machinist gets careless and approximates the measurement?
Each world faith has its prescriptions and descriptions of belonging and progress. When it comes to Christianity, should we not expect Christ to set the standards, to spell out for His early followers and they to us what He means when He commands us, “Follow Me?”
John, one of the company of the Twelve, who tracked with Jesus, learned from Him, was changed by Him and became a lifelong proclaimer of truth spells out for us the precise meaning of love and obedience.
“And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.”
Love = Obedience to Christ’s Commands. Obedience = Walking in Love towards God and Others. I cannot claim love for God without obedience. It is not optional. Obedience isn’t some vague ‘feeling’ but rather the full commitment of my will to do His will! Isn’t this the imperative of the Great Commission? “…and teaching them to OBEY (not know) everything I have commanded you…”
