Have you ever thought of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel as your servants? Perhaps you’ve never had servants and are not accustomed to have people care for your practical needs.
In 1 Peter 1:12, Peter notes how God answered the perplexed searching of the prophets, who were trying to calculate the time and circumstances surrounding the person and work of Jesus Christ, of which they were writing. God revealed to them ….
“…that they were not serving themselves but you (Christ-followers), when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven…..”
These early Christians were blessed far beyond their understanding.
1) God’s prophets wrote down prophecies, which would find their fulfillment in Christ, in order to bless and build up those who would become Christ-followers. We too are blessed with the Old Testament writings and have at our disposal a treasury of spiritual wealth whenever we choose to avail ourselves of it.
2) God’s preachers communicated the gospel message with the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. One prophet writes – “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news….” or as Nahum writes, “Look, there on the mountains, the feet of one who brings good news, who proclaims peace!” (Nahum 1:15a)
We are blessed to have God’s word, God’s messengers, God’s grace available to us that we be brought to faith in Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth and the Life. Now if we would be DOERS of the Word and not just HEARERS!
