God’s Appointed Time

My watch (the one with the alarm) went missing yesterday. Through the years, even with a variety of alarms, I have missed some appointments. “Were we not meeting today?” someone indicates on our answering machine. “Did I get the wrong date for our appointment?” another queries as I fail to show up.

God’s appointments always happen with His perfect timing.

As the LORD answers Habakkuk’s second complaint, He instructs the prophet to write down what He is revealing. The LORD has booked a time to teach Habakkuk.

Then the LORD replied: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and not delay.” (Hab. 2:2-3)

Habakkuk is to pick up his pen and take notes. The LORD’s plan is to preserve the prophet’s questions and HIS answers for generations to come. Here we are over 2500 years later reading and reflecting on this written document. How blessed we are to have Scripture in a language we understand!

The written down message will be carried by a herald. He will run with it and spread the news the LORD has crafted. Others need to hear. Others need to understand. Others need the clear message the LORD provides.

But when will this occur? At an appointed time. The LORD has waited for the prophet to ask questions before He answers. God is never in a rush and is never behind schedule. When He reveals Himself as He does continually through 1) the book of CREATION and 2) the living WORD (Jesus Christ) and 3) the written Word (Scripture), it is for the benefit of those who are listening. The LORD is about to speak. The question is–Is Habakkuk listening?

Today marks December 1st, the beginning of the month when we celebrate GOD’s central appointment with human history. “In the fulness of TIME, GOD sent forth His Son….” Don’t let the busyness of these days keep you from spending TIME with the LORD of ETERNITY!
