Begin with Creation, Let It Draw You To Scripture

Psalm 19 testifies to the witness brought to the world by God’s glorious creation.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge……”
Creation is a perpetual witness to the reality of a Creator whose power, glory, diversity and beauty is demonstrably proven through His handiwork. I’m always amazed as I commute how many people seem oblivious to the glory in the heavens, the work of God’s hands in the skies as they text their friends, race down an over-crowded highway and rush to work for another day.

David, the gifted musician of Israel penned Psalm 19. Beginning with CREATION, he later (v.7) transitions to the WORD of the LORD. Creation provides a 24-7 testimony, but God’s Word completes the message to a needy world.
Using a series of parallel affirmations in the beauty of Hebrew poetry, David declares….
“The law of the LORD is perfect….
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy….
The precepts of the LORD are right….
The commands of the LORD are….
The fear of the LORD is….
The ordinances of the LORD are…

GOD’s word fills in the ‘gaps’ left in the mind of a searching inquirer who reflects on the beauty of the created world. Who made all this beauty? Who designed the wonders we see all over the world? Has He spoken? What has He said?

Thank God today for His CREATION and His WORD, affirming witnesses to who HE is and how we may know HIM. As I think of the number of Bibles I have in my possession, I am convicted with my desperate need to read them more, to acquaint my inmost being with the riches of the Scriptures. This perfect, trustworthy, right, radiant, pure, sure and altogether righteous word is exactly what I need.

God has spoken. Are we listening?
